My Drool List – The Slingbox

The drool list is a feature I’m starting that goes down my wishlist of things i’d like to own one day and probably never will.

Its a bit like a bucket list, but with more drool and indulgence

The list is not going to be in any particular order and I’m sure some of you that know me may be surprised that the iPad2 isn’t my number one – but I like keeping people guessing sometimes. They won’t all be electronic products either, but you may notice a pattern forming over time 🙂

So let me introduce to you number one on my list – The Slingbox

The Slingbox allows you to watch TV anywhere

The slingbox could be a lifesaver for you and the kids on holiday

A slingbox is a fairly new product in the UK, but I first came across them in the US a few years ago. Its basically a box that connects to your TV system (Sky, Virgin etc) and allows you to watch and control your TV from anywhere in the world via any device, be it a laptop, tablet or phone.

Watching TV via your phone

You can watch TV anywhere on any device using a Slingbox

As long as you have an Internet connection, then you can just connect through a SlingPlayer on your device and the TV is your oyster. You can remotely take control of Sky+ or your Virgin Tivo, or just Freeview and watch all your favourite shows.

So if you’re on  a family holiday in Tenerife and all they have in the hotel room is CNN international, BBC World or Eurosport, the Slingbox will  be pretty useful. Or even if you’re just in your bedroom and you don’t have a TV there, just use your mobile or laptop to hook in.

Of course, this is total and utter geeky indulgence and it carries the pre-requisite of being a bit of a TV addict in the first place, but the thought of being able to take Peppa Pig or Ben Holly anywhere for the weekend sounds like a peaceful one for me sometimes

(You can buy a Slingbox in BestBuy or Tesco and other main electrical stores)
